We're back again for the next series of GRDC Advances in Weed Management webinars

In June 2016, ICAN will be back with the next series of GRDC webinars on weed management topics for grain growers and advisers. Jump on your laptop, tablet or PC on Thursday mornings to link into a short 30 minute presentation on key weed topics for the northern grains region, which will be followed by approximately 15 minutes for questions.

Webinars are free of charge however participants will be required to pre-register for the webinar(s) of interest to receive a link to the webinar software.

Webinar Dates

Start time - Queensland/NSW 8:30am

Webinar 1 - Ecology and management of wild oats - Thur 16th June

Wild oats has been a consistent and ongoing problem weed in winter cropping in the northern region for many years. Growers who are focused on elimination of seed returning to the soil have been able to drive down the seedbank over time, resulting in low numbers in many paddocks. However widespread resistance to a range of post-emergent herbicides is now making control difficult in many paddocks.

This webinar will continue to build on the library of previous webinars focusing on key problem weeds. We will address the ecology of wild oats, the latest on herbicide resistance and discuss how we can use this information to develop effective management strategies.

Webinar 2 - Maximising glyphosate. Performance of different salts and adjuvants - Thur 23rd June

Despite concerning levels of weed resistance, glyphosate is likely to remain the most widely used herbicide in broadacre grains cropping for many years to come.

During this webinar we will be joined by Andrew Somervaille who has been conducting field trials with glyphosate since its introduction in Australia. Andrew will explain the different glyphosate salts and how they enter the leaf; behaviour in the spray tank and which adjuvant system is preferred for each formulation.

A webinar not to be missed for anyone relying on glyphosate in their farming system.
